Child's seat in rear cargo area.

I should have explained better as the safety concerns are very valid. We launched in flat calm water and stayed close enough to shore that I could brace on the bottom very easily. Biggest problem was not hitting my paddle. Also stayed in a area where there was swimming and campsites. Definitely...

should my first kayak be a home build?..

If I lived in your area where there are lots of used boats available I would buy a used boat or 2 as you develop your skills. Kayaks seem to hold there value well once there a few years old. And build one in your spare time as you are handy and have the tools. Living in eastern alberta I worked...

    Little kids Kayak.

Great info thanks, And nice pic. Outrigger or extra floats on the side are in the plan because she is only 3 and I don't want her to get a big scare and turn her from kayaking.

Cant seem to load the pics of me paddling with it and the paddle maker using it before he shipped it to me. I asked him to try it out as it was the biggest paddle he had made. I will try again tomorrow, it looks right when I am holding it. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5991 Here is a link to a build thread.

Is my paddle going to be too long?

You can also measure from the ground to the top of your reach (arm held above your head) as if your fingers were curled over the tip of the paddle as per KayDubbya's post. This is what my paddle maker used for the length of my paddle and it feels great to me, but it is my first GP. using the...

Roof Rack question for 2012 - 2013 Madza 3 sedan

My Civic has the short roof Thule kit, seems to work fine so far. Rack came loose after a year of not checking the tension, snugged it down and its been fine all summer.

Roof Rack question for 2012 - 2013 Madza 3 sedan

I carry a Delta 17 on a civic with no problems. First trip was 300 km at 120-140 km/hr with no problems. I don't trust the spring loaded buckle straps so after snugging them down I wrap and tie down the ends. Yakima folding J rack the blowdown, with round bars. I would not go with round bars...
