I've got an old self inflating mat that has developed a hole. The hole is where the fabric connects to the plastic valve. Any recommendations for products/approach to repair it?

The mat is old and doesn't owe me anything but I figured I might as well try and repair it rather than throw it away. As this mat is big and heavy I only use it for car camping so I'll be sure to bring my lighterweight one as back up.

    Thanks!

I'd try a urethane glue like Aquaseal or Shue-Goo. You might get away with neoprene glue as well, but I think the others'll be better.

Natasha, that is a difficult repair. Aquaseal on freshly cleaned and abraded surfaces, seasoned with Cotol, is about as good as it gets. Scrub the surfaces with tap water dosed with some liquid dish detergent, such as Dawn, dry with clean paper towels, treat with Cotol, apply the Aquaseal (fresh tube), and clamp or hold them together firmly. Allow to cure overnight, and test it the next day.
