Shelter Bay is located on the mainland side of Queen Charlotte Strait one day's paddle from Port Hardy on Vancouver Island.
Coordinates: 50°58.611N X 127°27.634W
 
I would suggest Shelter Bay is a critical site. There is nothing else close by. It is needed for crossing to and from Port Hardy. I'm not aware of any sites to the east on the mainland side till Kingcome Inlet. Next useable site is Skull Cove, a half day to the North. Very sheltered from sea conditions and a good campsite for several tents. Sand beach.

There is active logging in the area. There is a fish farm between the islands at the south side of the entrance to Shelter Bay. I was there Sept 2007. A dry year, there was no creek when I visited.

Someone carved a trail from the beach to an inland lake (or tidal lagoon).
